PeteWatson The reason Trump will shift is because it gets worse for him the more it continues. He is basically waiting for a Hail Mary boost that never comes as I read the situation. It’s not bad for anyone else to agree to a MOU soon. It would free the Strait, oil flows again, he still gets some kind of nuclear deal with Iran and if he is willing to get in Arms Control Experts and the IAEA in the next stage then he has an excellent stronger than JCPOA deal for the taking.
But for Trump politically it’s difficult because he won’t be able to explain clearly why he went to war. So it’s more to do with that, to try to reverse the political mistake of entering this war by coming out with a clear surrender of some sort from Iran. But he will never get that.
So at some point he will have to decide to cut his losses rather than throw more good money after bad to use a gambling analogy.
But when you are down in political capital like that even as your political capital continues to sink, but only slowly, it’s difficult to quit while you are down and a natural response to want to drag it out in a hope that somehow you get a boost and then can quit on an up.
So I think that’s what’s happening here.
